Permitted with authorization: Commercial production

The CanPG distinguishes between cannabis, i.e. hemp with 1 % THC or more, and cannabis products. It is not possible to sell “plants from the field” or flowers openly. Only “products” may be sold. A company may produce such products with the approval of the FOPH.

In contrast to “raw” hemp, cannabis products are packaged and labeled with warnings. They are tested for microbes, foreign components, solvent residues, pesticides and heavy metals. They must fall below the maximum levels for such contaminants.

The manufacturing company must ensure all of this. The maximum THC value must also be observed: At weed, this is 20 % THC, although it can be between 15 and 25 % THC with tolerances. Although this is enough for most people, flowers with up to 30 % THC are now being offered in the medical sector. We don't see why this should be any different here. For hash and extracts, the maximum is 60 % THC, which should be enough for the vast majority. Here, the permissible fluctuation range is 54 to 66 % THC.

Cannabis products can be the well-known ones: weed or hash. Other extracts are also possible. In addition, vaporization pens (liquids with THC), perhaps also flower vaporization units, edibles and pre-rolled joints can be produced.

There are also further regulations here: joints need an activated carbon filter and must not contain nicotine. The classic joint made from tobacco and weed must therefore still be rolled yourself. Edibles may not contain any additives such as sugar or flavorings. Alcohol or taurine are also not permitted. The maximum THC content of these products is not specified in the law, but is once again defined in a regulation. We will not know exactly what will be possible here until this is available.

The packages must be sealed, neutral (without brand elements), partially childproof and may contain a maximum of 5g THC. Product information (THC and CBD content, lot number, warnings, prevention centers, expiration date, etc.) is also required.
